The flower emerges once a year to bloom for only 3 days. It is associated with the sun god Ra as the bringer of wisdom, the flower of enlightenment. It is considered a symbol for life, immortality and resurrection in Egypt. As well as Ra the Blue Lotus is also associated with Nefertum the god of Perfume who is pictured with a Blue Lotus on his head.
