Preventing Winter Bugs

Winter is here and it got me to thinking of what we can do to keep our immune system healthy during this time.  Whenever I feel like I’m under the weather I take the following:
Hot Organic Cider Vinegar Drink with added 1/2 teaspoon organic turmeric and a pinch of organic cayenne, this mix not only does it help kill the infection, soothe a sore throat, it can lessen any nausea.
Vitamin C & Zinc powder in juice, we now have available Metagenics MetaZinc with Vitamin C Powder in Raspberry or Orange – email or Facebook us if you need to stock up whether with Zinc Powder or Organic Turmeric/Cayenne/Cider Vinegar.
Make up your favourite soup be it tomato, pumpkin, chicken or tom yum & make if from fresh preferably organic ingredients and make sure you add in extra garlic, cayenne and turmeric.  Eat with a side of Organic Raw Garlic on Burgen/Vogels/Organic bread toasted – yummy!  Avoid all forms of sugar while feeling ill, sugar will make it harder for your immune system to fight back, remember Chillies have at least 100x more vitamin C then oranges!
if I feel like it’s turning into a head cold I add to my routine:
Organic Allergy Tea – Eyebright dissolves any mucous through the nasal & sinus passages, Pau d’ Arco fights the infection be it viral, bacterial or fungal, Licorice soothes a sore throat, as well as decrease inflammation and Echinacea helps to improve your immunities fighting capabilities increasing lymphatic clearance and lessening severity of symptoms.  Remember sneezing into a hanky or into your elbow will lessen the contagion area (as proven on Mythbusters!).
If your infection is heading to your chest then brew up some Organic Breath Tea – Mullein, Licorice, Hops & Thyme this combined mix helps to break up congestion, help remove from your lungs, soothe your lungs from the excessive coughing and fight the infection bringing relief.
Morning and Night whether it’s a head or chest cold I then perform a nasal saline clearance:  Take a pinch of sea salt and place in a warm glass of water (put jug on to boil but don’t let boil, only needs to be warm)  Stir salt until dissolved and then take a teaspoon of the mix and snort up left nasal passage then repeat with right nasal passage.  After this it’s important to apply the following:
Original or Stronger Chest Balm either directly under your nose as well as on your toes and chest as well as this you can put a 1/2 tsp into a small bowl of nearly boiled water and dissolve get a big towel or sheet and pop underneath and inhale for at least 5 minutes.  Even better hop into the bath add in some Naturalus Therapeutic Bath Salts, will help to alkalise the body and lessen cold & flu symptoms before they get a hold.
It’s best to make sure you rest during this time, call your boss take that time off, get to bed early if you can sleep during the day.  When we’re sleeping our immune system is busy fighting, busy fighting the infection so the more sleep you can get the quicker you can recover!
I hope these suggestions will help you and others.  Remember to wash your hands and not the little quicky wash, you need to scrub properly.  Follow these simple steps:
* Wet your hands with running water.
* Apply handmade Naturalus Soap (perhaps for some extra strength try our soaps with turmeric, either “Black Tea on Orange” or “Yogurt & Turmeric”).  
* Lather well.
* rub your hands vigorously for at least 20 seconds.  Remember to scrub all surfaces including the backs of your hands, wrists, between your fingers and under your fingernails.
* Rinse well.
* Dry your hands with a clean towel or air dryer.
