“Moroccan Mint Tea” ceremoniously prepared in front of guests and formal occasions, a drink of hospitality and traditionally prepared by men, in particular the head of the family & considered very impolite to refuse it. Green Tea is believed to have entered Morocco in the 18th century via China, Morocco is believed to be the first importer of Chinese Green Tea. The main type of Green Tea used in Moroccan Mint Tea is “Gunpowder Green Tea”. Enjoy making and enjoy drinking by following the recipe below:
To serve 2-4 people
Boil at least a litre of water. Rinse your teapot with approximately a 1/4 cup of the water.
Add 1 Tablespoon of Naturalus Organic Gunpowder Green Tea, and another 1/4 cup of boiling water. Leave to steep for 15 swirl the pot to wash and rinse the leaves and pour out the water. Making sure you leave the Green Tea in the teapot.
Add a large handful of either fresh mint or fresh spearmint to fill the pot to near capacity (If you have handy you can add a handful of fresh absinth leaves or lemon verbena leaves). Add 1/4 cup of sugar (can be less – to taste) and fill the pot with boiling water.
Leave the tea to steep for 5-15 minutes. Gently stir and then pour into small tea glasses and stir – Enjoy!
