More Info…

The Oak Tree is a symbol of strength reaching over 100 feet in height. The Oak Tree was dedicated to Thor the Norse God of Thunder giving rise to the belief that they could never be struck by lightening. Believed a sign of protection, acorn shaped wooden pulls were attached to the pulls on venetian blinds to guard those within the homes. Quercus taken from the Celtic Quer meaning “fine” & ceus meaning “tree”, alba latin for “white”. Native American Indians use the bark for digestive issues i.e. diarrhoea, haemorrhoids (piles), and wound healing. Its high tanning content made it perfect for to use for leather tanning. White Oak is rich in nutrients: Beta carotene, pectins, quercetin, sulphur, calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, potassium, selenium, zinc, B vitamins & vitamin C. The tannins within give it its actions of astringency, haemostatic, anti-septic, it also is anti-carcinogenic, diuretic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anthelmintic in action. Health conditions it can help with are haemorrhoids, nose bleeds, internal bleeding (haemorrhaging), parasite infection, pharyngitis, boils, sores, diarrhoea, jaundice, kidney stones, poor urine flow & gallstones. Externally it has been shown to form a protective eschar (dry scab) over tissue and has anti-microbial activity helping to heal weeping eczema, burns, tonsillitis, leucorrhoea, bedsores, gingivitis & as a mouth wash for mouth sores.
