Patchouli has a deep earthy musky fragrance. Used in perfumery, rituals, cosmetics, scenting textiles & a deterrent to insects. Originated in South east asia, cultivated in Indonesia, India, Philippines, Malaysia, China & South America. It’s name in Hindustan, “patch” = green and “ilai” = leaf, used in incense to help assist in grounding & centering the mind. In folklore it’s associated with prosperity, abundance & money. More memorably with some the 60’s & 70’s. Its many actions include: Febrifuge (reduce fevers), anti-viral, anti-fungal, antiseptic, anti-depressant, sedative, aphrodisiac, astringent, insecticide, cicatrisant (healing to wounds), analgesic, anti-inflammatory.

Been shown to help reduce tension, insomnia, depression & anxiety as well as improving a lowered libido & lowering a high blood pressure. It’s uplifting & soothing to nerves. Used topically for skin problems i.e. acne, eczema, herpes, ulcers, cellulite, haemorrhoids, varicose veins, inflamed, cracked, chapped, & irritated skin. Heals wounds, scars, relieves itching with it’s anti-septic, anti-microbial, anti-fungal actions.
