Organic Turmeric

If you’re like me than one of the first things you would of seen turmeric in was ‘Deviled Eggs’ or at the evening meal of ‘Curried Sausages’! But turmeric has come far since then and it has found itself to be a star in herbal healing. Turmeric or Curcuma longa is related to ginger, but unlike ginger its rhizome is bright yellow/orange in colour. I like to add turmeric to my meals as much as possible but in times of need i.e. finger joints sore from excessive typing/writing or a sore throat, I’ll add a pinch up to a tsp into a glass of warm water along with a pinch of cayenne, 2 tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar and sip away at it and sure enough the pain would lessen and the sore throat wouldn’t eventuate.

To help with getting the maximum effects of turmeric it’s believed you need to add just the tiniest pinch of black pepper i.e. to 1 teaspoon of turmeric you’d need a 1/100th of a teaspoon of black pepper. Others say turmeric absorbs with an oil/fat so if you are not taking in your meal then put into a teaspoon of Virgin Organic Coconut Oil. Apart from the aching joints and sore throats turmeric has been shown to be of benefit for many other health issues, such as: Boils, fungal infections, cancer, wound healing (topically), allergies, hay fever, eczema, heal spurs, asthma, acne, colds, flu virus, cysts, irritable bowel, fatigue, PMS, fevers, conjunctivitis, fibromyalgia, sciatica, M.S., carpal tunnel, sinusitis, migraines, gum disease, hair loss, bleeding gums, candida, poor circulation, diabetes, diarrhoea, fibroids, kidney cleansing, skin rashes, coughs, parasites, insect repellant and more. Organic Cayenne

Memories of being the new kid on the block, being tested by mates on the strength of chili/cayenne you could handle. Dishes laid out in abundance and being directed towards the hot meals as the extra hot and extremely hot were out of bounds to start. Then they’d watch in anticipation to see how long and how much the little kiwi girl could handle of the wickedly enticing spice! Faces may change in your life but the wonderful spice cayenne has taken hold, and in doing so has found many uses in our medicinal, as well as culinary kitchen.

When taking cayenne you should always start out small, sprinkling over your meals is the easiest way to start, it seems to enhance the flavour, BUT remember a pinch is enough to start. For those of you keen to get started, take a pinch and add to a glass of warm water, add a couple of tablespoons of Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, stir and enjoy. If you need to sweeten add in some Manuka Honey. This is the best thing ever to take if you are feeling under the weather, sore throats, indigestion, cold or flu symptoms. These are some of the things I take this drink for, and I’ve found that the itchy scratchy throat disappears, nauseous stomach returns to normal and you get back to feeling healthy.

But don’t just listen to me, if you head to this link: https://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/cayenne.html you can hear from even more people who’ve experienced using cayenne pepper themselves for many health conditions including the following: Arrythmias, arthritis, athletes foot, bleeding noses, candida, cold feet, tired/computer eyes, hypertension, weight loss, low energy, blocked sinuses, cold, flu virus, coughs, excessive menstrual bleeding, crown’s disease, diarrhoea, frostbite, shingles, chilblains, varicose veins, heart attack, haemorrhoids, irritable bowel, heart palpitations, hypothyroidism, eyesight deterioration, ear infections, vertigo, kidney blockage, lowered immunity, migraines, inflamed gums, MRSA infection, prostate issues, ulcers, wound healing and more, .

Whole Organic Black Peppercorns

Black peppercorns are from the plant Piper nigrum, produced from the still-green unripe drupes of the pepper plant. The drupes are cooked briefly in hot water, both to clean and to prepare them for drying. The heat ruptures the cell walls in the pepper, speeding the work of browning enzymes during drying. The drupes are dried in the sun for several days during which the pepper around the seed shrinks and darkens into a thin wrinkled black layer which we know commonly as black pepper.

Black peppercorns are one of the most commonly seen condiments in most households, but did you know black peppercorns in particular have been used medicinally in Ayurveda and Chinese Herbal Medicine for 100’s of years. It was at the time a very expensive luxury item in western parts of the world, but it is now utilised more by western herbalists, used to help improve digestion, stimulate appetite, treat diarrhoea, indigestion, flatulence, haemorrhoids, coughs, colds, flu virus, sore throats, sinusitis, headaches, toothache, diabetes, vertigo, urinary tract infections, hair loss, arthritis, boils, staph infections, vitiligo, stomach upsets, and more. Most easily taken by adding to our meals but if you are needing help with healing feel free to contact us as we can best advise how to take for specific health conditions. For those of you who use organic turmeric regularly, black pepper helps with absorption of the turmeric itself, we recommend that if you use 1 you are best to have both for optimum effects.

Organic Cinnamon Powder

Cinnamon is an evergreen tree originated in Sri Lanka & India. It’s dry bark is ground and soaked in seawater before distilled to extract it’s oil. It has an earthy, woody, spicy aroma & smelling it provides a soothing effect, improving brain function, helping to ease anxieties, stress, relieve nauseousness, vomiting, while relieving headaches.

Its use dates back to 2700 BC. Used by Egyptian embalmers in their work of embalming, as well as in perfumes, incense, oils and for preserving food. Tomb raiders in the Middle Ages applied cinnamon oil on their bodies to prevent bacterial infections from the decaying bodies. The oil has been found to kill E. coli, Staphylococcus & even antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria.

The Cinnamon name is derived from Ancient Hebrew “kinnmon” which is believed to originate from the Malay/Indonesian term ‘ Kayumanis ‘ meaning ;Sweet Wood. Pliny wrote/gave the market price for an Egyptian pound (350gm) of Cinnamon in the 1st Century as being 1000 Denares, which was the equivalent to 5kg of Silver!

Cinnamomum zeylanicum is considered the’ True Cinnamon’ More commonly available for use in stores as is Cassia or Cinnamomum cassia. Cassia cinnamon has much higher levels of coumarin a blood thinning component and it should be avoided by those who take warfarin or other blood thinning prescriptions. Cinnamomum zeylanicum should be their cinnamon of choice due to it’s much lower levels of coumarin. Cinnamomum zeylanicum has also been shown to be nutritionally richer especially in Iron, Manganese, Calcium & Vitamin C.

It has natural analgesic action helping to reduce inflammation, stimulate circulation, hypotensive, as well as other actions such as aphrodisiac, antispasmodic, antiseptic, antimicrobial, antibacterial, anti-fungal and very astringent in nature making it very useful for treating digestive upsets, high cholesterol, candida infections, and even memory/cognitive improvement. Shown in studies to help support kidney health especially for fluid retention (oedema), as well as respiratory health, helping to relieve coughs, remove congestions, & relieve sore throats associated with colds. Studies have also shown cinnamon to help improve glucose uptake, delaying the emptying of stomach contents which in turn prevents blood sugar peaks from occurring. Research is also being looked into how cinnamon can help with HIV, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s (shown to break up amyloid protein clusters) & more.

We recommend using in your food, with meals i.e. curries, in your tea or coffee, smoothies, as a hot drink with honey, even sprinkled in your porridge or on toast with bananas the ideas are endless, click on the link to read even more information on cinnamon and how it can help you and your family: https://www.earthclinic.com/Herbs/cinnamon.html
