Organic Rooibos Tea
Red-Bush or Rooibus pronounced ‘roy-boss’, is grown in the Western Cape Province.
More Info…
It was brought to the rest of the world in the 1930’s by Benjamin Ginsberg and local doctor Dr Le Fras Nortier. The tiny seeds were difficult to obtain as they dispersed as soon as the pods cracked, but they were lucky enough to get seed from a Khoi woman who had followed ants dragging seed, she followed them back to their nest and upon breaking it open found a granary. It’s popularity has since grown since their beginnings at the Klein Kliphuis farm, and is now the main tea export of South Africa.
Rooibus is very rich in antioxidants, flavonoids, bioflavonoids, alpha hydroxy and many nutrients such as zinc, magnesium, manganese, copper, potassium and more. It’s many health benefits include helping with all skin conditions i.e. acne, hives, eczema, sunburn; prevents DNA damage; Cardiovascular protection; Improves glucose uptake after a meal; Aids in liver tissue regeneration; Lowers high blood pressure; Inhibits lipid per-oxidation and brain aging; Lowers the risk of heart disease; Decreases allergies; Relief to respiratory ailments i.e. asthma, bronchitis; Relief to digestive upsets and even irritable bowel syndrome; Possible benefits for Cancer, AIDs; Anti-fungal in action; Calming, so great for nervous tension & stress.
The leaves and twigs are harvested between January & March, they are oxidized and then sun dried. When brewed it has a naturally sweet flavor with nutty undertones. To me it was like a black tea without the bite and the sweetness was like the absolute perfect amount of honey had been added (which isn’t of course) – it’s just delicious! Steep 1 teaspoon of herbs for 5-10 minutes to get the best temperature and flavour. 1 – 3 cups recommended daily.
